Teaching andLearning AcademyThe Deakin Teaching and Learning Academy is where Deakin T&L staff can build and share practice and learn from others.
Teaching and Learning Academy
Deakin strives to empower staff to learn, develop, excel and inspire others (Deakin Education and Employability Guiding Plan, 2020). The Deakin Teaching and Learning Academy (the Academy) powers innovation and continuous improvement in education through building capability and sharing expertise.
The Academy addresses:
- Continuous improvement in teaching quality through the development of practice, scholarship and leadership in teaching and learning.
- Making clear the career development pathways within teaching and learning, including support in enhancing academics’ identities as expert practitioners.
- Formalising recognition of expertise and leadership in teaching and learning.

Two Deakin priorities inform the Academy
DeakinDesign Principles via quality, collaboration, innovation, scholarship, partnership and sustainability in teaching and learning.
The Deakin Teaching Capability Framework: The Academy will operationalise the Deakin Teaching Capability Framework through teaching capability and community-building activities, inviting greater visibility and accessibility for teaching and learning staff.
Membership and Governance
Membership of the Academy is inclusive and conferred upon successful completion of identified professional learning activities. The Academy’s Academic Governance Group receives an annual report and assists with decision-making regarding evaluation of programs, database design and approval of initiatives.

‘Sharing and celebrating our teaching practice with others is a big part of the culture here at Deakin. Being part of the Academy allows us to learn with, and from other educators, as part of a community who really care about student learning.’
