Stackable Learning
Stackable Learning refers to a concept providing students with seamless lifelong learning experience relevant for an individuals career development. where learning is stackable, bankable and university recognised for credit.
At Deakin we aim to be an innovative provider of short form learning that extend flexible and lifelong learning opportunities, enhance Deakin’s course portfolio and address changing demand for postgraduate education.
Deakin is reshaping university education with credit-bearing short courses that are designed to ‘stack together’ towards a range of degrees and provide a taste of what it’s like to study at Deakin. In an ever-changing career market, this is an innovative way to access real professional development needs while investing in future learning goals.
Deakin offers a range of learning experiences to address global changes in graduate work and careers and the need to continually up- and re-skill. Specifically over the last seven years, Deakin has moved at least half of its postgraduate suite to a stackable model of related graduate certificate, graduate diploma and masters courses.
In parallel, Deakin has created taster courses or Mass Open Online Courses (MOOCs) across a range of disciplines on the FutureLearn platform (with over 700k learners enrolled); Professional Practice Credentials providing skill specific signals of achievement with no course-work that allow individuals and organisations to have their capabilities recognised and independently verified and in some instances also providing AQF-aligned credit; most recently offerings of credit-bearing stackable short courses providing another way for students to learn industry-based skills within a degree or stand-alone to support lifelong learning throughout an individual’s career.
