DeakinDesign Pathways
DeakinDesign Pathways is Deakin’s distinctive model of coordinated curriculum (re)design for both new and existing courses and units. The model (see Figure 1) consists of three interrelated pathways that enable the embedding of the newly established DeakinDesign Principles and Practices. DeakinDesign Pathways draws together expertise from across Deakin Learning Futures (DLF), leveraging our unique structure to drive more ambitious outcomes and large-scale impact to improve the quality of teaching, learning and student success.

The foundation for the Pathways draws on the innovations, processes and expertise from both the CloudFirst Project and the four Faculty Learning Innovation teams. DeakinDesign Pathways provides a stable, responsive mechanism for continued course review and renewal:
“DeakinDesign Pathways is a very sophisticated model allowing nuanced response to need -which is rare. Most teaching and learning centres flip between centralised and localised models and often teaching and learning support is reactive or project based. We’re aiming to combine both in a sustainable, stable and responsive model of teaching and learning support.”

The DeakinDesign Pathways Prioritisation Framework
The Pathways framework draws together the University’s innovations in online education into a coordinated approach to curriculum that builds capability and impact of curriculum design through a partnership approach.
Through an annual prioritisation process that adopts a data driven decision making model, DeakinDesign Pathways supports faculty priorities through intentionally allocating teaching, learning and multimedia development to those areas that will have the biggest impact on student success. The Pathways Framework allows the intentional linking of divisions and areas across Deakin to ensure a holistic approach to unit and course design.
The Pathways therefore facilitates cross-disciplinary sharing, discussion and capability building in curriculum design across Deakin, while simultaneously creating a sustainable approach.
