Ep. 63 – The role of cybersecurity in higher education

In episode 63 of the Tales4Teaching podcast Joan Sutherland speaks to Dushyant Sattiraju, the Operations Manager of Cyber Security at Deakin University. Cybersecurity has become increasingly important as higher education continues to embrace new technology, which highlights a growing need to protect the data of students, teachers and the University.

Dushyant talks about the complexities of cybersecurity and stresses the key role of the individual when it comes to online safety. When talking about organisations, there is a shift in behaviour that needs to occur. Cybersecurity for teaching and learning is not about checking a box, it’s a cultural change we need to make as we continue to live more of our lives online. Dushyant points out that at Deakin we need to ensure that our graduates are aware of the importance of cybersecurity to protect themselves, and to make them job-ready for the modern workplace.

He also discusses how cybersecurity is on our minds more than ever as the media covers more instances of individuals being targeted by cyber criminals. Listen to episode 63 of the Tales4Teaching podcast to hear more about cybersecurity at Deakin University and the ways it can be integrated into teaching and learning.
