The first round of Deakin’s stackable short courses was launched in October with 18 courses included in the initial offering. The release is an important milestone in the Stackable Learning Project that commenced in late 2020, with the goal of providing stackable courses that extend flexible and lifelong learning opportunities. Delivered entirely online, the short courses are designed to provide job skills needed now and stack together as credit towards a full postgraduate degree.

Deakin’s stackable courses include postgraduate degrees, short courses studied as either a standalone activity or as part of an award course and ‘taster courses’ providing learners the opportunity to explore options before they commit to a full degree. The stacks are designed around key learner interests and objectives across three areas: Business and Management, Health & psychology and Data Science, Analytics & IT.

Each course is co-designed with industry experts and partners, making them recognised and valued by industry and employers alike. This means that learners can get rapid knowledge growth and develop highly sought-after skills that can be immediately applied in the workplace. The seamless integration of stackable courses addresses the changing demand for postgraduate education and provides more choice for an individual’s learning experience. The Stackable short course page provides more information for prospective students and the general public.

The Stackable Learning project is led by Global Studio and is sponsored by the DVC Education and DVC Global Engagement portfolios. The project team also benefits from the expertise of faculties, Market Insights, Academic Governance and Standards and the Division of Student Administration. Academic staff have contributed ideas for short courses and development is already underway for the second release.

Deakin staff with an idea for a course can find out more on the Stackable Learning SharePoint site or email globalstudio@deakin.edu.au.
