Recognition
Associate Professor Glenn Wadley SFEA is the Associate Head Of School (Research) in the Faculty of Health, School of Exercise & Nut. Sci.
Why did you apply for the HEA fellowship?

There were several reasons I applied for a HEA Fellowship. It was an opportunity to be benchmarked on my expertise and experience in higher education (HE), and being internationally recognised made it very appealing. Also, the undergraduate courses in our School are professionally accredited, so it just made sense that I should also have some sort of professional HE accreditation. Deakin were also offering to mentor us during the process, so the fact my employer was willing to invest in me was both a little flattering and gave me some reassurance that it wasn’t something I’d be doing all on my own.

“Although the application was quite a lot of work, it was one of those rare opportunities to formally reflect on what I’ve done and, more importantly, what I’ve learned”
It was certainly quite satisfying being professionally recognised, but more importantly the process was one of the most rewarding professional development opportunities I’ve participated in. Although the application was quite a lot of work, it was one of those rare opportunities to formally reflect on what I’ve done and, more importantly, what I’ve learned and how I’ve developed as an educator. You also end up with a lot of quality text about yourself to use in a future promotion application. I’m also very grateful for the mentoring and support I received when writing the application. The feedback I received was amazing. My HEA mentor had an uncanny ability to summarise my approach to teaching in ways I’d never thought of – or at least put into words.
